Accessed from a CHOSA Volunteer’s Blog: LX in Africa

Molweni iitshomi! (hi friends!)

I miss you all, but am absolutely loving my semester in Cape Town. A very special part of my experience is my volunteer work with an organization called Children of South Africa (CHOSA), which was started by American semester abroad students. I volunteer twice a week at an orphanage/at-risk children’s home called Emasithandane in a slum like township called Nyanga with some amazing kids. Many of the kids don’t speak English well and are on a wide spectrum of academic capability, so it can be very frustrating. But it is also the highlight of my day and seeing their faces light up when we drive up is such a wonderful feeling.

There is a competition going on from now through March 30th where the organization that receives the most individual $10 donations will receive a $4000 grant in addition to all donations raised. It is a great opportunity to get some much needed money for CHOSA, and the organization will decide how best to allocate it amongst its various projects.

Here is some more information on CHOSA : www.chosa.org/
And donating is very easy and reliable through Razoo: http://www.razoo.com/story/Mg2010-Nit-Contest-Donate-10-To-Help-Chosa-Win-4-000-For-Children-In-Sa

Thank you for reading and possibly donating. This organization means a lot to me and the money is absolutely going to a wonderful cause, so your support (financially or emotionally!) is greatly appreciated.

Love, Alex

P.S. Cheat the system! If you would like to generously donate more than $10, feel free to put it on separate credit cards.

P.P.S. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you do donate so I can send a thank you note!
